Moll Flanders is a novel that was written by Daniel Defoe and published in 1722. The plot centers around the life of the title character from birth until old age. The book is partially based off of the life of a notorious London criminal named Moll King who Defoe met during a visit to Newgate Prison. Daniel Defoe was an English writer, trader, and spy. Defoe is considered to be one of the first to help popularize the novel. Defoe was very prolific and he is also credited for being one of the founders of economic journalism. Defoe is best remembered today for classics such as Moll Flanders and The Life and Adventures of Robinson Crusoe.
